First Culinary Fest&Feast "Borsch in ceramic potty"

Ukrainian traditional cuisine is a cultural heritage which
reflects historical development of Ukrainian nation, traditions, customs and
culture. The visit card of Ukrainian culinary is borsch (typical soup with
vegetables and meat or without meat) traditionally cooked on ceramic pot in a
stove. First Ukrainian gastronomy festival “Borsch in ceramic potty” will take
place in Opishnya, Poltava region. During the festival representatives of
different villages inOpishnya district will compete in cooking of the most authentic
and delicious soup. The volunteers will help with preparation, organizing and
cleaning after the festival. The event will be organized by a tourist complex “Staryhutir”
(Old farmstead).
Type of work: The volunteers will help with preparation of the
farmstead’s territory for the festival, e.g. installing informational pointers
and plates, constructing a stage and distributing promotional materials. During
the event the volunteers will help with welcoming of visitors. After the
festival they will be involved in cleaning and arranging the territory of the
tourist complex “Staryhutir”.
Study theme: The volunteers will have opportunity to enjoy the festival,
learn the secrets of cooking real authentic borsch, as well as other Ukrainian
culinary traditions. As Opishnya is a famous as a center of Ukrainian ceramic
production, the volunteers will have a great chance to visit local ceramics
factory and museum, college of art and participate in a pottery workshop. Thanks to living in the countryside the volunteers
will have a great chance to experience life in Ukrainian village, discover
Ukrainian culture and traditions and learn information about history of Poltava
region.
Accommodation: Volunteers
will stay in tents on the territory of tourist complex “Staryhutir” surrounded
by picturesque landscape. It is hotel-museum which consists of several
traditional houses made of clay in the beginning of XX century. There is an
authentic Ukrainian toilet and an outdoor shower. Please bring your own
mattress and sleeping bag. Food will be provided. The volunteers will cook for
themselves using kitchen or outdoor stove.

Requirements:
Location: Opishnya,
Poltava region. Opishnyais a village situated in Poltava region which is
considered to be a heart of Ukrainian tradition and culture. The surrounding
landscapes of the workcamp place are incredible picturesque.
